Most installations up to about 50–60m² (a single open-plan living area or two average bedrooms) take one full day. Larger projects covering multiple rooms or levels typically take two to three days. During your free in-home quote, George or Dave will give you a realistic timeline based on your specific layout, subfloor condition, and the product being installed.
Yes — all furniture needs to be cleared from the rooms being installed before work begins. Spirit Flooring focuses on the installation itself; furniture removal and return is your responsibility. For heavy items like pianos or built-in wardrobes, arrange help in advance. We'll confirm what's needed at the quote stage so there are no surprises.
Both are popular in Melbourne homes and are often confused. Hybrid flooring has a rigid waterproof core — it can handle wet areas like bathrooms and laundries. Laminate has a wood-composite HDF core and is highly water-resistant day-to-day, but is not designed for standing water or wet areas. Both look great, feel similar underfoot, and are durable enough for busy households. See our Hybrid vs Laminate buying guide below for the full comparison.
Yes — engineered timber is particularly well-suited to Melbourne's variable climate, which swings between hot, dry summers and cool, damp winters. Unlike solid timber, engineered timber uses a multi-ply core that is dimensionally stable: it expands and contracts far less with humidity changes, reducing the risk of gaps, cupping, or warping over time. Solid timber is still a premium option but requires more careful acclimatisation and subfloor preparation.
Costs vary depending on the product, room size, subfloor preparation, and any levelling work needed. As a rough guide, laminate and hybrid installations in south-east Melbourne typically run in the range of $35–$65/m² supply-and-install for standard projects. Engineered and solid timber cost more. The only reliable way to know your job cost is a free in-home measure and quote — Spirit Flooring offers this at no obligation.
Spirit Flooring provides a 1-year workmanship warranty on all installation work. Product warranties are separate and vary by manufacturer — we'll advise you at the quote stage on the specific warranty terms for the product you choose.
Both options are available. Spirit Flooring can supply and install — we source laminate, hybrid, engineered timber, and solid timber and bring it to the job. If you've already purchased flooring, we can install-only. Let us know at the enquiry stage and we'll quote accordingly.
In many cases, yes. Installing over existing tiles is common when the tiles are well-adhered and level, and when the additional floor height won't cause problems at doorways and transitions. Installing over existing timber floorboards is also possible depending on the condition and level of the existing surface. We assess the subfloor as part of every quote — if preparation is needed, we'll tell you before the job starts.

For high-traffic zones like hallways, living rooms, and kitchens, hybrid and laminate are the most practical choices. Both resist scuffs and dents well, clean easily, and hold up to the foot traffic of a busy household. Hybrid has the edge in areas that may see occasional spills or moisture. Engineered timber is also suitable but at a higher price point; solid timber requires more maintenance in heavy-use areas.
Yes — quality hybrid flooring uses a fully waterproof rigid core and is designed to handle spills, splashes, and humid conditions. It can be installed in bathrooms, laundries, and below-grade areas. Laminate is highly water-resistant but not waterproof — standing water left on laminate joints for extended periods can cause swelling. If wet areas are a priority, hybrid is the safer choice.
Absolutely. Spirit Flooring handles single-room jobs, multi-room projects, and whole-house installations. A single bedroom or bathroom is just as welcome as a complete home renovation.
For laminate and hybrid floating installations, you can typically walk on the floor the same day installation finishes — no adhesive cure time is needed. Engineered or solid timber glued to a concrete slab may require a short wait; we'll confirm at the job stage.
Solid timber is milled from a single piece of wood — it has the most authentic character and can, in principle, be sanded back multiple times over its lifetime. Engineered timber has a real timber veneer bonded to a multi-ply or HDF core, making it more dimensionally stable in variable climates and more compatible with concrete subfloors and underfloor heating systems. Engineered timber is typically the smarter choice in Melbourne homes, especially at slab level or in rooms with humidity variation.
Note: Spirit Flooring supplies and installs new floors only — we do not offer sanding, polishing, or restoration of existing floors.
